What is Hypnosis?
A hypnotic trance allows conscious access to the subconscious or
unconscious mind. All information from experiences past and present are stored
and processed by the unconscious mind. Therefore, patterns of behavior that have
become unconscious can be changed through this access.
We have all experienced a hypnotic trance.
It is that state we find ourselves in just before we settle into a deep
sleep – you can hear and are aware of your surroundings, maybe even
hyper-aware, but you are also detached. For
example you may hear folks in your home talking about you or even call your name
but you don’t feel obliged to respond. We
may have experienced the same state while riding in a car or bus, or watching
TV- it really is hypnotic!
A hypnotherapist induces this same sort of state by different methods and
then uses the access to the subconscious to change undesirable behaviors to more
desirable ones. You will be aware of the whole process just as you would be
aware of a conversation near you on the bus while you gaze peacefully out the
window, the choice to focus on what is being said is yours and does not affect
the work of the hypnotherapist nor the success of the outcome.
